They are currently seeking an experienced Process Engineer for our plant in Chicago. In this role, the Process Engineer will lead plant wide efforts to minimize plant energy costs. They will also study and evaluate all aspects of plant energy usage, recommend operational and equipment changes, and manage projects up to $10MM. Additionally, the engineer will determine the most cost effective energy options while supporting production targets.

Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with 2+ years of plant experience.
Knowledge and understanding of chemical or refining process, and systems involved in its operation such as basic chemistry, heat and material balances, P&ID development, mechanical and physical/chemical separations, evaporation, crystallization, drying, material handling, CGMP, and energy management.
Knowledge and understanding of energy management techniques, thermodynamics, and the use of derivatives as risk management tools.
Understanding of the financial impact of alternative energy sources, risk management and operations changes on the profitability of the plant.
Demonstrated strong analytical capability, including the ability to analyze performance data and its impact on energy efficiency.
Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization and use influence skills to obtain cooperation and support across multiple departments.

Duties include:
Energy – Implement and maintain energy savings programs, policies, and procedures. Assist the production departments in identifying and reducing energy costs.
Engineering – Provide engineering studies, designs, and justifications for approval to support optimizing energy efficiency.
Projects – Execute projects (which requires establishing and meeting budgets and schedules, supervise construction, train personnel, supervise startup, coordination with environmental, safety, QA/QC and maintenance), or be a member of a project team that executes projects. To demonstrate that completed projects meet the design objectives. To ensure that documentation is updated when the projects are completed.
Production – Track and maintain energy data, monitors key parameters, assist operations with troubleshooting, and optimizing energy usage. To assist production departments in developing procedures and training.
Reporting – Prepare energy usage reports for the plant and individual operating departments in coordination with the utilities department.
