GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB Ensure operations are performed in accordance with all applicable EHS regulations while leading efforts to promote a positive safety culture through colleague engagement, training and communications. The focus is really on Safety. Will manage the program, not personnel. QUALIFICATIONS: BS in Science or Engineering (Occuapational H&S a plus) with 5 + years of experience leading safety efforts in manufacturing operations at the supervisory level. FDA experience is a plus (pharmaceuticals, medical device) as is filling and packaging but open to others. Should have experience implementing sound safety culture. Ergonomics compliance desired. Operational leadership or individual contributor experience in manufacturing operations. Task oriented, highly motivated and organized with high level of attention to detail. Strong written and oral communication skills. Should be able to relate to all levels of the organization. Prefer local or minimal relocation needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Lead through influence from an expectation that ensures EHS Compliance and Safety are core values. Provide EHS guidance and support to the entire facility and remote site's as requested. Provide oversight to ensure associated equipment and facilities are maintained to meet or exceed EHS requirements. Develop, implement and maintain programs and plans to ensure compliance with all applicable EHS regulations. In partnerships with training and departmental leadership maintain and implement training programs that ensure compliance while improving performance with respect to safety behaviors. Support departments in evaluating their current procedures and practices for Safety and EHS compliance. Establish strong working partnerships based on a commitment to teamwork and mutual accountability to ensure alignment on EHS goals. Support and drive change within the operation by establishing partnerships with peers, cross functional stakeholders and shop floor colleagues to align their actions with safety and improvement efforts. Develop, implement and lead a proactive Safety Committee. Leverage the committee to ensure safety requirements, actions, objectives and plans are driven through the organization in a positive and proactive manner. Monitor current and pending legislation relating to operations at manufacturing facilities and assess new developments affecting the company's operation. Manage all permitting activities relating to federal, state, and local regulatory agencies. Interface with regulatory agency personnel during inspections, meetings, and permitting sessions Develop procedures to effectively control accident and health exposures in the company and prevent OSHA citations. Evaluate hazardous conditions and practices and develop hazard control practices and programs. In partnership with the operating department, investigate all accidents, incidents and near misses. Develop corrective action and preventive actions and through them through to completion. Develop alternative solutions to identified ergonomic problems. Develop and maintain emergency preparedness plan that incorporates OSHA requirements, and national and local fire protection codes. Ensure the tasks of chemical/waste handling, air monitoring, and recordkeeping are conducted. Ensure all EHS Record Keeping and Programs are up to date and in compliance with applicable standards, this includes; Air Quality Permits, OHSA Logs, Bloodborne Pathogen, Emergency Action Plan, Lock Out Tag Out Program, Electrical Safety, Confined Space Entry, Written Hazard Communication, Forklift Safety, Respiratory Protection, Personal Protective Equipment, Spill Prevention Control, and Countermeasures, Storm water Pollution Prevention Plan, and Waste Generation.
