Requirements: B.S. Chemistry; 5-15 years out of starch, coatings, batch specialty chemicals, or pharmaceuticals (acceptable second choices). This person must have experience with taking customers ideas and formulating a bench scale product which will involve some reaction chemistry. Pluses include: scale-up experience (bench to full-scale), customer support experience, analytical testing, paper formulating or coatings experience and paper production experience. The key for this job is someone who is hands on and has well-developed people skills. Another key is a chemist who is experienced in formatting many compounds at a bench scale level using a variety of chemicals to develop new products for customers.
Job Description: This facility has 500-people on site, taking raw corn, rice and wheat and grinding/milling them in a large-scale fashion to make additives for paper coatings, water treatment, and food industries. This company also has an ethanol plant on site. This job will be 100% product development. In Cedar Rapids, new hire will do formulation which involves adding proper amounts of acids and solvents to corn, wheat or rice. This person will also assist in the scale-up, from bench to pilot to full-scale, of new products. This person will also look at blue-sky development of new products that are independent of customer desires/needs. Travel for this position will be 30% and travel will involve going to customer sites to assist customers, execute trial runs of new products, and do troubleshooting. |
